Zdeno Chara vs. "The Cone"
Lately, I have been hearing rumblings from the TD Garden faithful about the performance of Zdeno Chara and how he is becoming the new Dennis Wideman. There is no possible way that Big Z, the captain of the second place Bruins, could be compared to "The Cone." 10 Goals, 15 Assists and a + 20 Rating seems far from terrible. If you were to tell me at the beginning of the year that our top defender would have 25 points and be on the ice for 20 more even strength goals than he has given up over the first 46 games, I would be very satisfied. Now granted, Tim Thomas has bailed out the defense on more that one occasion. But make no mistake I will take his freakishly long reach to clog up passing lanes on the PK and his 105 MPH howitzer from the point all day, every day. Every player has a bad game from time to time. But the numbers that Big Z currently own at the halfway point have earned him a spot on the 2011 All-Star roster and do not even come close to qualifying for the shit he has been taking. To suggest that the "C" should be taken off his sweater is an insult to him and the team.

Among defenseman he is; tied for 5th in goals (1), tied for 1st in Power Play goals (6), 2nd for shots on goal and shots per game(AKA 2nd in chances created), 3rd in time on the ice (thats for all positions). The big Z is doing just fine.
ReplyDeleteOn a side note who is shitting on Wideman, besides being on a mediocre team this year Wideman's stats actually are not that terrible.
hes doing fine this year, but last year he was in the slump of slumps for the bruins. some said his stats were equal to that of a "cone."
